  1. YouTube and ITunes are such valuable tools for musicians, and you can tell this with Skybug. The aspect of music that has changed so much is the ability to publish your own music without having a record label. I can understand why Skybug would spend so much time using her technology for music.

Your comment about how “The school systems are using technology to do repetitive assignments and skills these younger generations of students already know or we are hardly using it at all” seems very true. Students seem to see technology at school as a boring tool for writing and testing.

I also think it’s very problematic that most of the websites. apps, and tools that kids are using outside of school are not available at school or are blocked from networks. There are educational alternatives, but none of them seem to fly, because they have so many limitations.

Your idea for Skybug to create a blog is a great one. Hopefully she will have a teacher who will make it possible, and hopefully there will be a tech tool for blogging available in school! You are right about all of the skills she would develop by doing this.

  2. Ashley,
Every young person that I have met loves watching YouTube videos and listening to music. Our young girls weren't any different when it comes to this. I think that listening to music and finding videos is great to do. YouTube has a lot of videos to offer whether it be music, educational, or even just DIY. I know a lot of people my age use it for tutorials for everything. Your young person has so many technology sources that I can't believe she doesn't like to play games. I am the same way though so I can't say anything. Our young people are the same when it comes to having their phones all of the time and always being on social media. They love posting and talking online to their friends and always text when they are not around each other. It seems that all of the interviews have the same outlook when it comes to technology in schools, which is something that we really need to work on changing. There are so many resources that schools have and we need to start making sure that our students use them.
