Chapter 10
" However, even among the small cohort discussed in this chapter, it was clear that the children had different responses to digital technology, especially in relation to its perceived place within the school discourse."
Every child is going to learn differently. With anything that is being learned it is being learned in different ways. Some children may get the material right away, but some it takes a different approach or longer to learn. We have all been a student in school, we have been on both parts of the spectrum. The student that gets it right away and the student that struggles and doesn't understand. We are not robots that learn the same way and that is why teachers need to mix it up and teach different ways. If we learned all the same way teaching would be easy and our children today wouldn't need extra help sometimes. We wouldn't have students that struggled or fell behind.
Chapter 11
Today's students have not just changed incrementally from those of the past... A really big discontinuity has taken place. One might even call it a singularity- an event which changes things so fundamentally that there is absolutely no going back."
I have to agree with this quote. Younger generations today are way different in most every aspect than older generations. Older generations care about tradition and held on to that knowledge. I feel that today's young people don't really care about where we came from and how to do things like cook, can foods, sew, grow a garden etc... Why learn these things if you can pop something in the microwave, go buy food or clothes from the store. They are not important like before. I find it sad and I love learning these things from my grandparents. I also think that the morals of this country is going down the drain. Our children know things they shouldn't way too early and feel comfortable with sharing that with people. You hear cuss words like they are nothing and we are so use to it that it goes in one ear and out the other. Older generations morals were a big thing unlike today.
Chapter 12
" In this chapter, we make the case that the sum of these changes in youth media practices can be good for teaching and learning, but that they are not without complications."
With technology rapidly growing and changing. We have it all around us especially in our school systems which can be a great thing because we can make learning fun by introducing material in new ways that interest the students today, but there are things that can happen with technology. There are some things on the internet that are not appropriate and children try to go on these sites so school systems have to block the sites. Some sites are great, but people use them in inappropriate ways. For example, I am a fan of Pinterest. I get a lot of idea for my class on the site from art projects to classroom management because someone misused the site, it is blocked from being used at schools. When e use technology, we as parents and teachers need to be aware of what students look up and how technology is being use. We need to let students know how to use technology appropriately.
My meme is of our students as robots. Sometimes I feel that society and people in general forget that every student is different and learns in different ways. Some have learning disabilities and some have no problems at all and always excel in school. Our students will never be on the same level. We are not robots we are human beings.
