Changing Literacies; Changing Pedagogies
Chapter 7:
" Student-teachers are likely to learn about what might be possible from the models they encounter, and there was no evidence here that any had encountered practices that could be described as transformative."
First off in this chapter I could really relate to the pre-service teachers and their experience with digital media and practices. I felt that the book was describing me. The I stumbled on this part of the text. I looked back at when I was a student teacher. The first host teacher I worked with was very old school and their was no digital practices what so ever in her classroom. With my second host teacher, I saw some new digital skills being implemented into her classroom. She was also a younger host teacher and that is why I think I saw more technology into her classroom. If new teachers are being hosted by older teachers not using these digital literacies then how are they to be used or see them used.
Chapter 8:
" In many ways the school's context has changed radically over the last decade, but at the same time we can see that the school fumbles in its response to this development, and remains static and protected against technology, even if the students 'bathe' in technology on their leisure time."
I agree the school setting has change drastically from what it use to be. Its gone from paper/pencil, books, and chalkboards to computers, Ipads, and Smartboads etc... We have all this technology around us and it seems that the young is using technology more outside the school setting. When I was in high school not too long ago, we had computer labs, laptop carts, and all this technology and I can probably count on both my hands how many times I got to use those computers throughout my four years. We are just letting this technology that can do great things collect dust or use it for something like testing. Do we really want our youth to think that the technology in school is only used for testing?
Chapter 9:
" When it comes to popular social practices with visual texts among youth, including video gaming, web surfing, and now, uploading short films and television shows to video iPods, it is often unclear to educators what stance we might take."
I have always been a visual person being an art teacher and all. I usually will look at a picture or image to figure what I am suppose to do before reading a bunch of instructions or text. I feel that our youth are like this as well. There can never be too many visual aides. When it comes to teaching verbal instructions aren't always enough. Some students need step by step examples or visual aides where they actually can see what they are suppose to do next.
My Illuminated test is on the chapter 7 quote I chose. If our new teachers coming in aren't experiencing digital media as a student teacher then the cycle will never break. I could not get authorstream to work for this Illuminated text so I just added it in a link.

Digital Literacies: Social Learning and Classroom Practices.
Chapter 4:
"The evidence assembled for this chapter suggests that while increasing numbers of teachers are aware of wikis and are making use of them in classroom contexts, they are not yet using them in ways that reflect the array of practices and attitudes identified with participatory culture."
I do agree that teachers are more and more taking advantage of using wikis and technology, but still are not using them in the ways they could be used. I am even guilty of it myself. I used technology in the classroom, but I do not use it to its fullest extent. I think that counties try to teach new things to introduce into our classrooms, but teachers either do not take advantage of the workshops or just choose not to use them in their classrooms because they are use to how they teach and they do not want to change.
Chapter 5:
" The cautiousness of these teachers is understandable; the time they spend with pupils in class is limited and they need to be confident about materials they introduce and to understand these text and their context."
It is very important for teachers to understand their material and technology. If we do not understand, we cannot teach the material successfully. If other teachers are like me, we tend to stay away from things we don't know, but wish we knew how to do new things to introduce it into our classrooms.
Chapter 6:
"The world itself consists of a number of interconnected zones that are lifelike and familiar- in fact they are often modelled on real- world objects.
This quote reminds me of the game, Sims. These worlds are places you can be whoever you create and you go through real life problems. People, especially young people can learn from games like these ones where they go through worlds go real world problems.
"The sequential and chronological characteristics of the blog format suggest how it can be useful in capturing such things as the development of a narrative, the design and implementation of a project, the progress of research, emerging processes, the aggregation, of links or references, and observations or reflections which develop over time."
The implementation of blogs in the classroom can have so many positive effects and I brought out some key points to a blog in the classroom.

Analyze Interview
Hanging Out:
My young person used the computer or Ipad to be on Facebook or be on Youtube looking for music both I feel are friendship or social driven practices. On Facebook, it is a social media. This is where young people spend a lot of their time going through their news feeds, messaging their friends, etc... With my young person, she seems to really be into music. I never see her without her Beat headphones and some source of music player. I know that her best friend is also into music so I feel that this going on Youtube searching for music is a hobby that is shared by her and her friends.
Messing Around:
With my young person she messes around on the computer by searching for music and being on Youtube. I feel that you have to be comfortable learning your way around Youtube to find what you want to hear. Also with owning a smart phone. She learns new skills without even realizing it.
Geeking Out:
I do not feel that my young person knows any specialized skills. I do feel that she can use a computer or Ipad to do general things such as researching, typing, etc...
Schooling:
My young person did mention that she has learned mostly what he knows about the computer at school and for assignments its usually writing papers, testing, or researching. She said that its always the same thing and becomes kind of boring. She would like to use the computer for other things that can be school related, but feels that teachers would not allow her too.
"The cautiousness of these teachers is understandable; the time they spend with pupils in class is limited and they need to be confident about materials they introduce and to understand these texts and their context."
Using technology can be boring in school because like my young person said it is only used for certain things, not really new things. Teachers need to know their stuff and be okay with teaching it which I feel a lot of teachers are not always confident.

Digital Texts in and Out of School
Introduction:
"They question what capabilities and understandings the latest generation of recruits from bringing their own personal encounters with digital cultures to their development and training as teachers, and how it is possible for the territory of curriculum development to engage with digital cultures."
This quote popped out at me in the introduction because I am a teacher and I feel that it is so important to know how to use technology and know what your students are using technology for. I do not think myself as a technology savvy human being. I would actually have to say that I struggle with it. I mean I know how to use the basic stuff, but when it comes to the more advance things that are becoming more popular. I struggle. That is why I think it is key that counties make teachers take so many hours of professional development. Also, not all teachers are the same, just like students. We have different experiences with technology that can be helpful to bring to a school system. I know that if I have trouble I always ask the teachers around me to help me with figuring a program or a piece of technology.
Chapter 1:
"Arguing that game players are developing different approaches to learning, Downes writes, 'computing environments, through their interactivity, readily afford these approaches and therefore reinforce this pre-disposition towards exploratory modes of learning."
I found this quote and I really liked running into it since I took a class for my class about video games, video gamers, and learning. I remember how we looked into how generations today are into video games and when they play educational games information seems to stick because they are learning and not even realizing it. They are also learning while having fun. As a teacher we should not always teach the same way. We should try to find ways to teach that excite the student like through video games. Even not really being a gamer myself, I would rather do an educational game at school than a worksheet or paper/ pencil assignment.
Chapter 2:
"I believe current classroom practices which focus mainly on individualized learning need to learn from what I and others have noted about online learning collaboration: that each individual can achieve more by interacting with others."
I have to say that it is very important to have learning where collaboration is taking place. Everyone can learn from the people around them, from young children to adults. A lot of times if we have struggling students in the classroom a teacher pairs them up with a stronger student in the class to help them learn or understand better. With adults I know a lot of the time we go to one another if we are having issues with technology or how to handle a situation or event that is occurring. It I just good to have people to bounce ideas off of because they may have better solutions that you really haven't thought of.
Chapter 3:
" The creation of a child's profile page can be viewed as a form of text production that occurs beyond these institutions, and that differs from curriculum- directed text production."
Many young people have their own social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc.... The list really can go on and on. It is a way to socialize and have something that truly is like an online scrapbook. Some things are very positive about social media, but it also has its negatives. A lot of the time I feel that I see more and more younger people on social medias that really do not meet the age requirement and then they see inappropriate or are engaging in inappropriate behavior. Some parents can not see this because they can set their profiles to private or have a password. We just need to as parents be aware that our children should not have social media sites until they are old enough or they know what they should or should not do.
Below is my Illuminated Text. I decided to focus on video gaming and learning. I felt that chapter 2 really stood out for me and since I have had a masters class that focused on this topic I feel really strongly about it.

Media Ecology and Learning Case
I decided to interview my cousin. She is 15 years old and just entering high school in the Fairmont area.
Ask your young person to choose a pseudonym for you to use in the writing of your case.
•Do you have a computer /iPod/MPC playerWii/ ect....?
•What kinds of things do you use the computer for?
•What is your favorite thing to do on the computer?
•How did you learn to do that?
•What are some other things you use the computer for?
•What is your favorite game? Why?
•Do you know other people who do this?
•How do you use the computer at school?
•How would you like to use the computer at school?
•Do you think teachers would let you use the computer to do those things? Why? Why not?
•Anything else you would like to tell me?
Me: For this interview you need to choose a pseudonym or nickname for me to use in my case?
You can use Skybug. That has been my childhood nickname.
Me: Do you have a computer /iPod/MPC playerWii/ ect....?
Skybug: What I can think of is I have a IPhone, computer, Xbox, Wii, IPod, and IPad.
Me: What kinds of things do you use the computer for?
Skybug: I use it for a lot of things. I use it to complete homework, looking things up, music, and getting on Facebook, but I use my IPad more than my computer.
Me: What is your favorite thing to do on the computer?
Skybug: Probably my favorite thing to do is get on YouTube and search for music.
Me: How did you learn to do that?
Skybug: At school
Me: What are some other things you use the computer for?
Skybug: I can't think of anything else.
Me: What is your favorite game? Why?
Skybug: I don't have a favorite game. I am just not into games anymore.
Me:How do you use the computer at school?
Skybug: I use it to write papers, research for assignments and testing.
Me: How would you like to use the computer at school?
Skybug: I guess to have a little bit more freedom and to have teachers show me things I don't know how to do on the computer.
Me: Do you think teachers would let you use the computer to do those things? Why? Why not?
Skybug: I doubt it. I feel teachers want assignments certain ways and if you don't do them that way it will show in your grade.
Me:Anything else you would like to tell me?
Skybug: No, I don't think so.
Me: Thank you for letting me interview you. I appreciate it.

Digital Natives
This video is to describe what a Digital Native is and to help people know about Digital Natives. Digital Natives are people that have grown up with technology and digital media around them. They are more comfortable with it, but that does not mean they know every aspect of it. Digital Immigrants are people that did not always have technology in their lives and it has to be learned. It is sometimes harder for them to learn, but not always. We just need to remember technology is always changing around us and we need to keep up with so we can educate ourselves and our children.

Beyond Digital Natives
Chapter 10
" However, even among the small cohort discussed in this chapter, it was clear that the children had different responses to digital technology, especially in relation to its perceived place within the school discourse."
Every child is going to learn differently. With anything that is being learned it is being learned in different ways. Some children may get the material right away, but some it takes a different approach or longer to learn. We have all been a student in school, we have been on both parts of the spectrum. The student that gets it right away and the student that struggles and doesn't understand. We are not robots that learn the same way and that is why teachers need to mix it up and teach different ways. If we learned all the same way teaching would be easy and our children today wouldn't need extra help sometimes. We wouldn't have students that struggled or fell behind.
Chapter 11
Today's students have not just changed incrementally from those of the past... A really big discontinuity has taken place. One might even call it a singularity- an event which changes things so fundamentally that there is absolutely no going back."
I have to agree with this quote. Younger generations today are way different in most every aspect than older generations. Older generations care about tradition and held on to that knowledge. I feel that today's young people don't really care about where we came from and how to do things like cook, can foods, sew, grow a garden etc... Why learn these things if you can pop something in the microwave, go buy food or clothes from the store. They are not important like before. I find it sad and I love learning these things from my grandparents. I also think that the morals of this country is going down the drain. Our children know things they shouldn't way too early and feel comfortable with sharing that with people. You hear cuss words like they are nothing and we are so use to it that it goes in one ear and out the other. Older generations morals were a big thing unlike today.
Chapter 12
" In this chapter, we make the case that the sum of these changes in youth media practices can be good for teaching and learning, but that they are not without complications."
With technology rapidly growing and changing. We have it all around us especially in our school systems which can be a great thing because we can make learning fun by introducing material in new ways that interest the students today, but there are things that can happen with technology. There are some things on the internet that are not appropriate and children try to go on these sites so school systems have to block the sites. Some sites are great, but people use them in inappropriate ways. For example, I am a fan of Pinterest. I get a lot of idea for my class on the site from art projects to classroom management because someone misused the site, it is blocked from being used at schools. When e use technology, we as parents and teachers need to be aware of what students look up and how technology is being use. We need to let students know how to use technology appropriately.
My meme is of our students as robots. Sometimes I feel that society and people in general forget that every student is different and learns in different ways. Some have learning disabilities and some have no problems at all and always excel in school. Our students will never be on the same level. We are not robots we are human beings.

Digital Natives: Navigating Literate Worlds
Chapter 7:
"Not all young people are digitally competent, nor are they all interested in every aspect of the new media."
I think that our society can forget about this aspect of digital media and our youth. Especially as a teacher you can see that not every student is on the same page with technology and digital media. Some children are not lucky enough to have technology at home which that isn't giving them the experience to be comfortable with it. The only time they get to experiment with using digital media and technology may be at school. Also, there may be young people that are just not interested in the new media. I felt I grew up in the age of being called a digital native, but I could care less growing up having all the new gadgets and gizmos. The only time I ever went on the computer or played a video game was when I was over a friend's house. Now, today being a teacher, I am more digitally competent because I feel like I need to be up to speed on the new media to introduce it to my students and keep up with my students.
Chapter 8:
"Despite, and in a way because of these findings, most commentators and researchers would support the notion that the rise of the Internet has brought about major changes in many aspects of culture and society."
The way we do things today has drastically changed from 10- 20 years ago. We have the Internet that has made everything so easy for us. We google information, pay our bills, buy items online instead of at the store, read the news, use learning programs, etc... the list can go on and on. The Internet has profided so many positive things that we don't really recognize today because they have become such habits. If we did not have the Internet just think of how many places we would have to go or visit to get things done. We have so many opportunities with the Internet to teach our children with through different web sites that offer learning.
Chapter 9:
" Extending the concept of participation by including activities such as communicating, peer-to peer connection, seeking information, interactivity, webpage/content creation. as well as visiting civic/ political websites (Livingstone, Bober & Helsper. 2005) showed that young people are participating in various ways online."
Young people are participating in things differently in this day and age than older generations. Our younger generations are participating, but mostly online where they are comfortable. If you ask any young person the way they communicate its probably through text or instant message. Society hardly talks on the phone anymore. Another media that people use instead of being in the same place is Facetime. Its become very popular to actually talk to someone and see them at the same time, but not be in the same place. The ways we participate in things have evolved and probably will evolve again. When I read this quote it reminded me of what my parents would say about the use of technology and young people. They would always say you need to stop texting and actually call the person up. My sisters and I would just give them a weird look and say why. We thought they were practically the same thing, but in older generation's eyes it is totally different.
Should Teachers Be Responsible For Developing Digital Literacies?
I feel as a teacher that I do have a responsibility to develop digital literacies. As I have said before and in our readings. The way society and our education system is changing and will continue to change. We need to teach sour students to be comfortable learning new media. For example, when I was in school all our testing was old fashion paper and pencil. Now it has all changed to be online. These students have to be comfortable using a computer and the programs or the test scores will not reflect the student's ability correctly. I also feel that it is not just the teachers responsibility, but also the parents of the child to introduce them to medias that they will have to learn how to use. If they get to experiment with using digital media at home, they will be more comfortable with it in the school setting.

Sometimes students are just as confused as teachers and sometimes teachers have to teach themselves things that students already know. It is our responsibility as teachers to keep up on the new media even if we are not comfortable with it. We will be happy to know about it in the long run while also helping our students.

“The Civic, Social and Multi Modal Lives of Digital Natives”
Chapter 4:
“Digital Natives are used to
receiving information really fast. They like to parallel process and
multi-task. They prefer their graphics before their text rather than the
opposite. They prefer random access (like hypertext). They function best when
networked. They thrive on instant gratification and frequent rewards. They
Prefer games to “serious” work.”
(2001a, p2)
I really enjoyed this quote from chapter 4. It says that
Digital Natives are used to receiving information really fast. I think that
society in general has gotten use to receiving information really fast. I feel
that anyone today if they wanted information about something wants the
information right away, so the first thing that happens is they just on their
computer, Ipad, Smartphone, on another device and go straight to the internet
for the information. This day and age hardly anyone goes to a book for the
information especially Digital Natives. We want the information almost pretty
much handed to us. Why not if Google just does it for you.
I can also relate to another part of this quote where Digital
Natives prefer graphics over text. I would rather get information from pictures
than reading texts. It may be that I am just a visual person, but I feel that
Digital Natives do prefer graphics. I feel that you can especially tell that
this true because on social medias and other websites they are always filled
with photographs with very little text or if you are interested in the story
that the photo is portraying you can click to read more.
Lastly, it says that Digital Natives thrive on instant
gratification, frequent rewards and want games instead of serious work. As a
current school teacher I see this on a daily basis. Teachers are always trying
to make learning more fun by making learning into games or adding some kind of
hands on activities to keep students on task. A lot of schools also have reward
systems in place when students are doing what they are supposed to or excelling
at their work.
Chapter 5:
“By emphasizing the discontinuity of
generations and “singularity”. Parents and teachers fear that they can no
longer fully understand or control children and young people.”
When I came to this part of the
chapter I found it really interesting that they used the word “fear” or
“panic.” That one day that children and young people will pass everyone up in
the digital/ technology world. Yes, I feel that sometimes older generations
have a harder time learning new things, but I do not feel that it will be out
of reach for others to learn. I feel that it is the parents and teachers
responsibility to keep up on new technology and digital media. I also feel that
there are parents and teachers out there that are completely unaware of what
young children and people are doing and that could be a problem.
Chapter 6
“The essential nature
of traditional skill development for students further indicates that today’s
students are not so different from previous generations: they still need to
learn the same basic skills.”
I really liked this quote from the reading. I feel that a lot
of people today make the comments today how different young people are or “this
didn’t happen back in my day.” Our society may be different from back then, but
the young children today still need the basic skills like the older generations.
They may just be learned in a different way. Today’s learners need to be
introduced to new material in ways that they know like through the use of
technology.
My meme shows what I feel life is like today. When we have young children they are drawn to technology and we often give them some sort of technology to play with to help them be good in public or just to keep them entertained. They are comfortable with technology growing up with it and then as they grow up and own technology themselves its almost like its glued to their hand. They are lost without it.

Digital Natives: Reflecting on the Myth
Forward:
"While it appears positive and celebratory, this characterization of young people is also strangely belittling: it assumes that young people spontaneously know everything they need to know about technology."
When I read this, it kind of made me laugh. To think that some people out there actually think that young people know everything about technology almost like they were wired from birth to know how to work every form of technology. Of course this is not the case. A young person has to be introduced to forms of technology in one way or another. Then it has to be learned by actually using the technology. There are young people out there that can get their hands on any form of technology and can probably use it without even thinking. There are also young people out there that are not so lucky and only see technology at school or from a friend.
Chapter 1:
"The current generation of young people will reinvent the workplace, and the society they live in. They will do it along the progressive lines that are built into the technology they use everyday-of networks, collaboration, co-production and participation. The change in behavior has already happened. We have to get used to it, accept that the flow of knowledge moves both ways and do our best to make sure that no one is left behind."
Green & Hannon, 2007, n.p.
If you think about this quote, it is so true. If you think of the work place 20 years ago to the present workplace is has rapidly changed. The way someone works and gets things done has changed through the use of technology which in my opinion has made things easier. If we need to get in touch with someone we can use cellphones, emails, text messaging etc... With meetings not everyone needs to meet face to face anymore, there is Skype, Facetime and other technology. These days people can also work from across the world because of all the technology that is available. Change is always occurring and it is not going to stop. The workplace will be different in the next 20 years.
Chapter 2:
"The distinction is, I think, much more about culture. It is about younger people's comfort with digital technology, their belief in its ease, its usefulness, and its being generally benign, and about their seeing technology as a fun "partner" that they can master, without much effort, if they are shown or choose to."
I think it is easier for young people to accept and use digital technology since they grew up with it all around them. With the older generations it was introduced into the world as this new thing that nobody knew really about. I have seen this with family members that completely will not use any digital technology. Before they even try in their minds they tell themselves its too hard or they will never learn. They also say that why go to something knew when the old ways work just as well for me, but I feel that they get left behind when they try not to learn new things. With the younger generations they see how beneficial digital media can be and it is fun to learn.
Chapter 3:
"Universities are losing their grip on higher learning as the Internet is, inexorably, becoming the dominant infrastructure for knowledge- both as a container and as a global platform for knowledge exchange between people- and as a new generation of students require a very different model of higher education."
Tapscott & Williams, 2010, p.18
If younger people are changing in the way learn than higher education has to change with the new generation coming in. If you look at higher education today it has changed because it is getting people ready for the workplace and if the workplace is changing rapidly then the new generation needs to be able to use digital technology with ease and taught parts of technology they don't know about. Higher education nowadays is pretty much completely online the computer and you must be able to know how to work everything.
Has my thinking changed?
I do feel that my thinking has changed on the use of technology and young people. I felt that I was easily swayed to think that technology has a negative effect on our younger generations and their education, but I feel now that this is not the case. I just feel that they are changing with the times like everything else around us. The younger generations are just more comfortable with technology and maybe the older generations can learn from the younger generations that technology is a valuable tool.
Visual Metaphor:
We are not born with the knowledge, we must learn to have the knowledge.

The image I chose was of the younger generation and technology. Technology has to be learned. The younger generation is not just born knowing everything about it. They learn from the adults modeling it around them and teaching it to them. Once they have grown up around it they are more comfortable using it.
Thirst
The image that I chose above from the Thirst presentation was the image that stood out to me the most. The whole presentation was an eye opener. As I went through the presentation I remember learning in school that most of our water on earth was not accessible, but as a young student it really didn't hit me the way this presentation did. It really made me think of my water usage and how I can start preserving water. What was so powerful about the presentation was that the facts about water and how the lack of water is or will be turning into bigger problems. I think that the ironic thing about the image I chose is that its going to be a thirsty world , but if you look at the image we are surrounded by water. Our world is mostly made up of water, but we either can't use it or it will be gone.

"Digital Media Effects on Conventional Reading and Writing Practices"
The quote that I chose from "Does Digital Media Make Us Bad Writers?" is:
"Writing always changes given the context. It molds itself to the changes.”
Society says that our writing is not what it use to be and they are right, but is that a bad thing? I have always been one of those people that said to others that our writing has gone down hill and people do not care about spelling, grammar and punctuation. You have the older generations saying that the writing back then was beautiful. Well, that all might be true that the writing was beautiful, but writing done change as we go through time. I remember when I was in grade school the thing to do was use instant message. My friends and I would be on there for hours talking on the computer. Now look, we have text messaging which is pretty much a mobile computer where you can get in touch with anyone at anytime. Writing changes as we advance in technology. I have just come to the realization of this.
The quote I chose from "Literacy Debate: R U Really Reading" is:
"Some literacy experts say that reading itself should be redefined."
With technology booming and always advancing, children are using that technology. Some want to say that instead of reading books children are reading on the Internet and that is why reading and writing skills have gone down and test scores have declined. In my opinion books are great, but reading is reading. An individual doesn't have to learn reading and writing skills just from a book. They can be learned everywhere from a newspaper to the internet. Both books and the internet hold knowledge for individuals to learn from. I chose the above quote because I feel that we as a society need to redefine what reading really is.
Web Evangelist or Traditionalist
I stand between the Web Evangelist and the Traditionalist. As a Web Evangelist, I think that the use of technology and the internet can endless. We are at a time where we can google anything we want to learn or know about. A tool that we didn't always have these younger generations know how to use like the back of their hand. Reading on the internet I feel is just like reading from a book. We are still taking in knowledge of something, but I also feel like their are important things we can not leave out and that is why I am also a Traditionalist. I feel some skills should not be lost, forgotten, or left behind. Just because we are evolving constantly does not mean we need to leave it behind. For example, I have heard that cursive writing is not a requirement to be taught in school today. That is a type of writing that many documents are written in today such a the Declaration of Independence. If cursive writing is a lost art. Then one day, people will not be able to read apart of our history.
Visual Metaphor
For a visual metaphor I chose the image below of people playing tug of war with a computer. The meaning I put with this image is that as individuals we have to balance out the use of technology and traditional skills that should not be lost or forgotten. We should not let go of either, but find a happy median.

Texting and Multi-modal Texts
The video that I watched on texting really opened my eyes. I feel like I have been one of those people that says look at how bad our writing has gotten because people always text and do not care about spelling, punctuation, etc... The important tings I learned from the video is texting is not the decline of the use of writing. It made me realize that texting is not writing at all. It is a way we speak which is called fingered speech. We write like we speak. It is not a decline in writing. it is an emerging way of speaking. Speech and our way of writing will always evolve over time.

Disruptions: Social Media Images Form a New Language Online
"As the world grows smaller, thanks to technology, people from all over the globe can chat with images that translate into a universal tongue."
When I came across this quote in the article, it really made me think of how far we have come in the digital age. I remember when text messaging became so popular and to think that we are moving into an era where communication is becoming more visual than text. Individuals are being able to communicate with others that speak in a different language without learning the language. This is something that I feel that we have never done before. We keep coming up with new ways to communicate and you wonder what will be next.
Introduction Post for EDUC 6809
Introduction
Hello, my name is Ashley Stevens. I am originally from Fairmont, WV, but about two years ago I moved to a small town called Hundred, WV. I moved to Hundred for my first art teaching job and my now husband had a place for me to live so I went for it and got the job! My first job at Valley High School was a great experience and I will forever remember those students. At the end of last year, my husband and I decided for me to try and get a teaching job in Marion County. Well, to say the least it worked out and I am now the art teacher at East Park Elementary. I teach to students in grades Kindergarten to Fourth grade. I really love my job and I feel very blessed that I get to teach what I love and make an impact on a child's life. Also, I am currently in the Masters program where I am going for my Masters in Professional Studies. EDUC 6809 is my last class to complete and I will be graduating this summer after completing the class.
Me and Digital Media/ Technology
What that I am trying to get out of this class is to be more comfortable with digital media and using it in my classroom. I feel that I do know how to use some things, but I feel with technology always advancing that I would just like to stay up to date with technology and digital media so my classes new and fresh. I feel it is important for me as a teacher to keep my classroom technology friendly. I guess that some people don't think that an art room needs technology, but as a teacher I know my classroom is lacking in the use of technology. The only thing that I have in my room is a projector and I use it in any way I can. I feel that trying to be up to date with technology is effected by my lack of technology in my classroom.
