Disruptions: Social Media Images Form a New Language Online

"As the world grows smaller, thanks to technology, people from all over the globe can chat with images that translate into a universal tongue."

When I came across this quote in the article, it really made me think of how far we have come in the digital age. I remember when text messaging became so popular and to think that we are moving into an era where communication is becoming more visual than text. Individuals are being able to communicate with others that speak in a different language without learning the language. This is something that I feel that we have never done before. We keep coming up with new ways to communicate and you wonder what will be next.

The image I chose above was to communicate my thoughts to the quote. As time goes by it feel likes our world is getting smaller and smaller because we keep striving in leaps and bounds. Things that once stood in our way (such as language barriers) are being dissolved. Once we think there is nothing greater out there something new is being created and its better than before. It seems that nothing can stand in the way of learning and the inventing of new things.

  1. Ashley, I also really liked the quote you chose. That was another one that really made me think. I realized that people were using images a lot more often in social media, but hadn't really thought about the shift until reading the article. I also hadn't even thought about the global communication of images, either, even though I've seen how it works through my own kids and what they watch and share and repost. Images really are a universal language, which is a pretty awesome thought!

  2. You know, I had very similar thoughts while I was completing this assignment. I think it is fascinating that we can now communicate better with people who speak different languages simply through pictures. Your quote is how took the blog article. I feel that your picture really captures what you are trying to say, holding a smaller world. It makes me wonder how our world will change in the next couple of decades. What will we be able to accomplish?

  3. Kudos Ashley, I thought you did great job with your image choice, I also like the quote and how it communicates exactly what you are expressing. We are expressing a visual language globally without text. I really enjoyed reading that in our article because how many times do we just skim over text that we really don't want to read, but a picture has so much more power.

  4. Ashley, I really enjoyed reading your blog because you focused on a completely different aspect of the article than I did by choosing to write about the dissolving language barrier. I currently have an exchange student in class and watching her make use the translator that she has is amazing to see. I felt that your visual metaphor perfectly depicted the idea you were describing!

  5. Nice quote! I wouldn't say that we are speaking different languages, but forming a new common language that everyone can understand. I think the picture you choose conveys your message perfectly.
